So, you need some music… I specialise in writing for orchestra, with a skill set extending into jazz, electronica, and other popular genres. I can write for moving image, and I am equally happy to write concert music.

When writing for a film, documentary, YouTube video, etc. I work to fulfil the sense of atmosphere/ mood/ narrative created, whilst bringing to the table my own knowledge, sense of judgement and creativity.

A piece for Sheffield Youth Orchestra’s Community Day, April 26th 2025

Provide me your lyrics and some artist references, and I will craft you a song. My little black book, filled with top musicians and ensembles, means I have access to the perfect line-up to bring any song to life at the recording stage.

Over the past year, I have been collaborating with a poet to bring his lyrics to life in the form of a collection of soft-rock songs. Drawing inspiration from Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Bruce Springsteen, and George Harrison. Working with incredible musicians, the recording process has been both intentional and unexpectedly rewarding, with moments of serendipity shaping the final sound in ways we couldn’t have planned. Above is our first release ‘Stopover’.

I have been lucky to be surrounded by music my entire life. I received my first violin when I was 2, began lessons at 4, and went on my first tour with a string orchestra when I was 6. I have played with: The Hallé, Chesterfield Symphony Orchestra, Rotherham Symphony Orchestra, Sheffield Youth Orchestra, City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra, Keele Philharmonic Orchestra, Keele Symphonia, Endcliffe Orchestra and most recently the newly formed Sheffield Strings!

From Dixieland to bebop, I have played drums in numerous jazz ensembles, and particularly enjoy writing for big bands. The power of all that brass mixed with a danceability inducing rhythm section – cracking combo. If the drum fill by Vinnie Colaiuta at 0:53s in this video falls short of conveying the awesomeness of jazz bands, then I am not sure what would.

I had a phase a few years ago of listening to 70s and 80s synth-pop. Yellow Magic Orchestra are an amazing Japanese band you should check out. They were early adopters of cutting-edge technology, using equipment like the Roland MC-8 MicroComposer and Yamaha CS-80. Their blend of synthesisers, sequencers, and drum machines with pop sensibilities laid down the foundation for many electronic music genres.
