So you want to learn music… what a great idea! I have been learning about music for over 20 years and I believe it is as integral to education as MaThS and eNgLiSh.
For those who wish to take exams: I myself have taken many performance and theory exams, and would be delighted to pass on my experience. I specialise in ABRSM exams, but I can also coach you through school or university assessments provided that you have the specifications for me to get familiar with.
For those who wish not to take exams: that is very understandable; may we forever steer clear of examination boards.
In more detail: Piano, Violin, Pricing and Cancellations.
Piano
There has been a piano in my house for about as long as I can remember, and thanks to learning such a versatile instrument many doors to enjoyable experiences have been opened. In fact, there’s a photograph in my study at home of me as a 2-day old, sitting at a grand piano. Now, I am in a band playing keyboards. We are writing an EP and have plans to tour the country. Let’s get you on your way to opening some doors.
I can take you from the fundamentals of piano playing, all the way to accompanying others, playing in ensembles, and reading classical sheet music, jazz lead sheets and pop charts. Do you want to be able to play and sing at the same time? Let’s do that! Do you want to study for exams? Let’s do that! Do you want to be able to improvise over chords? Let’s do that!
Violin
One is never too old nor too young to immerse oneself in music; I was given my first violin at the age of 2. I was too small to pick the violin up, yet I still ritually opened the case, plucked the strings, polished it, and put it away again. Eventually, I had my first violin lesson at the age of 4. It was at primary school, and the memory of it has stuck with me well. I did not quite know what to make of it at the time, but I knew I wanted to keep going back for more. Since then, I have recorded on albums, played in numerous orchestras, studied at university in America, and performed in Italy; non of which would have happened had I not stuck with my violin lessons.
With me as your tutor, you will be able to grasp the fundamentals of violin playing and music theory, learn various bowing techniques, read music, not only play solo, but with others in any style you choose to learn. I know plenty of orchestras in Sheffield that are looking for violinists, perhaps we can work on your audition.
